Catalogue Note
The Durenne foundry was one of the two major foundries of art castings during the 19th century. The firm was started by Alexandre Durenne in 1847 with the acquisition of a small foundry at Sommevoire. Growth of the foundry was rapid, and by the early 1860s Durenne was producing a vast array of statuary, fountains, and vases. The firm exhibited at numerous international exhibitions.
