Catalogue Note

The present group is undoubtedly the artist's own interpretation of the Antique Laocoön, rendered here with great sensitivity highlighting the influence of the impressionistic technique of Rodin. The ancient marble was discovered in Rome in 1506, and the emotional intensity of the work made a profound impression on artists for generations.
