Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau was the third son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Louis Joseph Moreau (1797-1885). He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1861, where he would exhibit regularly until 1913 alongside his brothers Mathurin (1822-1912) and Hippolite-François (1832-1927), who were also renowned sculptors.
