Catalogue Note

The present model by Louis Carrier-Belleuse was first exhibited at the Salon in 1892. Louis Robert Carrier-Belleuse studied sculpture under his father Albert Ernest and painting at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon from 1870 onwards and turned to sculpture in 1889. Like his father, he also worked as a modeler for porcelain, and became art director of the Choisy-le-Roi factory Hautin, Boulenger & Co., one of the renowned French earthenware factories established in 1804 by the Paillard brothers.
