Condition
Overall in good original condition with the usual wear to patina in places like especially on the top of head, arms and legs consistent with handling and touching. Light scratches and dents consistent with age. Thin patina showing buffer marks to bronze cast throughout.

Catalogue Note
Eugène Marioton was a pupil of Augustin Alexandre Dumont. He had a long and successful career as a sculptor and medal engraver, exhibiting regularly at the Salon from 1882 until 1922. Le Fascinator or Charmeur de serpents is one of his best-known works. The composition is taut and sinuous as the charmer controls the snake dangerously entwined around his arm. The subject fits within the contemporary fascination with Oriental themes.
