Catalogue Note

first edition; the only signed book from the first hebrew printing shop. The printers' names appear as the last words on the last line of 13/1v, at the end of the commentary on Exodus: "by the hand of Obadiah and Manasseh and Benjamin of Rome." By A. K. Offenberg's analysis (BMC XIII, xlv) this was the last of the six Hebrew books printed in Rome. The copy is somewhat cut down (the Hebrew Union College copy measures 400 x 285 mm), but the type-pages of this and of the other two Royal folios were apparently kept artificially small, 253 x 168 mm, to create a luxurious appearance, so that even in the present leaf size, the margins are ample.
