Late eighteenth-century polished calf, gilt fillets, gilt spine label, edges stained red.

Provenance
Jacob Georg Christian Adler, 1756-1834, Danish orientalist and government official (signature "Adler", and title written in his hand on the flyleaf). His books were acquired by the Royal Library, Copenhagen (Madsen 1897). This copy was sold by the Royal Library in or shortly after 1950, when it became a duplicate through the en bloc purchase of Lazarus Goldschmidt's incunables (Madsen 4306).

Catalogue Note
First separate edition of Proverbs in Hebrew. It belongs with Gunzenhauser's early program of publishing in three volumes of similar layout the constituents of the third part of the Hebrew Bible, the Ketuvim (Hagiographa); and it belongs chronologically between the first (see lot 26) and third (see lot 30) volumes. The passepartout on fol. 1v, generally called a woodcut, is a metalcut.
