Description
comprising: a gem-set pendant, designed as a Latin cross, set with step-cut and rectangular step-cut amethyst, highlighted by rose-cut diamonds, the surmount similarly set; a gem-set ring, collet-set with cabochon amethyst, to a plain mount with brushed finish, highlighted with one small brilliant-cut diamond, ring size 57 mm; a gem-set locket, the oval photo locket decorated with a pansy motif set with rose-cut diamonds and amethyst, opening to reveal four photo compartments, on a fancy link chain, length approximately 76 cm (2); a gem-set bangle, of cross-over design, set to the front with a cultured pearl and cabochon sapphire, flanked by a line of cultured pearls, to a hinged bangle, pearls have not been tested on origin; an amethyst and cultured pearl bangle, decorated to the front with three hexagonal claw-set amethysts and cultured pearls to an openworked hinged bangle, pearls have not been tested on origin, two pearls deficient.
Provenance
All jewels except the ring belonged to Maria de la Paz, Infanta of Spain, Princess of Bavaria (1862-1946). Thence by descent.
Condition
All jewellery is generally in good condition. Not illustrated at actual size.
Amethyst cross: Amethysts of a vibrant purple colour with some colour zoning and tiger stripe inclusions. Some chips and cracks to several amethysts towards the centre, and some minor traces of glue, as visible in the photograph. Height approximately 7.5 cm (without the surmount) and width approximately 5.2 cm. Weight approximately 37 grams.
Stamped to the loop 585 for 14 carat gold and 925 for silver.
Cross over bangle: Small chip to the cabochon sapphire, one of the bouton pearls have been replaced and one is deficient, some traces of glue. Pearls untested. Some tarnish to the gold, the bangle would benefit from polishing, small dents. Safety catch and chain to the clasp. Weight approximately 15.5 grams. Bearing French and Dutch assay mark for 18 carat.
Ring: Measurements cabochon amethyst approximately 14.9 x 11.6 mm, as measured in collet setting. Some small dents and scratches due to wear, discoloration to the band where the ring has been sized. Weight approximately 19.4 grams. Ring size 57 mm. Stamped 750 for 18 carat gold.
Amethyst bangle: Amethysts of a pale purple colour and they vary from each other. One of the amethysts have visible tiger stripe inclusions. Two seedpearls deficient and one seedpearl in worn condition. Inner cicumference approximately 4.5 x 5.5 cm. Weight approximately 18.5 grams. Safety chain to the clasp. Some discoloration. Stamped 835 for silver.
Photo locket: Measurements approximately 2.5 x 2.1 cm. Some tarnish to the gold and minor signs of wear to the locket and the loop. Weight approximately 15 grams. Stamped 585 for 14 carat gold. The chain is base metal.
