Catalogue Note

In Friesland, a country fair usually started with a trotting race and also in the city of Bolsward such races took place. The winner was awarded a silver or gold whip.
This carriage whip was presented to the winner of such a horse race. Only those whose horses had never won a game before were aloud in the game. Those, who did try to participate while already in the possession of a prize, were punished.
