Catalogue Note
Design for a series of illustrations (unpublished) for the history of All-Union Communist Party, 1924. A word between 'Marx' and 'Lenin' is effaced in black ink. Margarita Tupitsyn, the leading Klutsis scholar, in the work referenced below, has an interesting discussion of the iconography of this piece including the inclusion of a portrait of his wife, Kulagina.
Klutsis is still neglected as a montageur by comparison with such as El Lissitzky, John Heartfield, or Raoul Haussman.
