Catalogue Note

The Reverend John Richardson Major was the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Photographic Exchange Club, and, as such, a fundamental figure in the early circulation of  photographs and ideas about them. The present picture was circulated by the Photographic Exchange Club in the Photographic Album of the year 1855.

There is another print of this image in the collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
