Sidi Abderrahman eth Tha'Alibi (1384 ?-1471 ?), Saint Patron de la ville d'Alger, était un lettré, philosophe et théologien. Il écrivit des commentaires sur le Coran et fonda une confrérie religieuse. Son tombeau se trouve dans une petite Kouba, édifice comportant un dôme attenant à la mosquée Sidi Abderrahman à Alger, dans une salle chatoyante et colorée, ornée de bannières de soie multicolores, de lustres, d'étoffes précieuses et d'ex-voto. D'innombrables pélerins et visiteurs s'y sont rendus, pour se recueillir ou simplement pour en admirer la magnifique châsse de bois sculpté et doré. Parmi les peintres qui ont représenté ce lieu saint, citons Henri d'Estienne, Albert Lebourg et André Suréda. La grande toile d'Henri d'Estienne est reproduite dans l'ouvrage de Marion Vidal-Bué Alger et ses peintres, Paris-Méditerranée 2000 page 161, et le tableau de Suréda est illustré dans l'ouvrage du même auteur, André Suréda, Paris 2006 page 76.

Tuckerman, né à New York, fut élève à Paris de Félix Barrias et de Jean-Léon Gérôme. Il a exposé plusieurs tableaux au Salon de Paris, notamment en 1870, 1873, 1878 et 1880.
