Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is bowing. It is made up of three planks and the two joins have been reinforced and are slightly unstable. There is a horizontal split along the top which is moving. The paint surface is blistering in some areas and unstable and there are small un-restored paint losses as a result. The wood grain is dominant and there has been some attempt to reduce this where it has overwhelmed the thinly painted areas. The tonal improvement is reflected in the four visible cleaning tests. Much of the painting is in an untouched preserved condition. Offered in an antique black painted frame, some damages."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
