Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The panel is oak with a period addition along the bottom edge and one reinforced split, centre right, which is unstable. The paint surface is raised and insecure. The thin paint in the sky has been strengthened and in areas where the horizontal wood grain is dominant it has been reduced. Elsewhere, where the paint has lifted, a pale filigree of cracks has appeared and these areas have been significantly retouched to lessen the effect. The darker passages have also been abraded and reinforced. The figures are generally in a good condition. The varnish is slightly discoloured. Offered in a black and gold painted frame, good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
