Description
- Willem Claesz. Heda
- still life with an overturned tazza, a tall wine glass, an open pie on a pewter plate, a partly peeled lemon and a nautilus cup all arranged on a partly draped table
- oil on panel
Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The oak panel is made up of three planks(2 joins) in good condition with a stable paint layer.
The wood grain is dominant in places and so has been reduced e.g. the white tablecloth and the nautilus shell. The shadows cast by the lemon and the nuts on the plate have also been augmented . Apart from a minor scattering of retouchings elsewhere the painting is in a good condition with a tonal improvement to be achieved by the removal of the varnish.
Offered in a gilt and plain wood frame, good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues.
