Description
- The Spaghetti Eater
- oil on canvas
Condition
Canvas relined and paint surface has been slightly pressed as a result. Under a thick dirty varnish. There are very good passages of paint in much of the figure including face and most of the flesh tones and the costume, which have all remained in fine condition. However, there are other areas that show abrasion, particularly at right of the costume, and especially at the far right side of his raised arm. There is also abrasion in the drapery underneath his hand holding the pasta bowl. In addition there are thinnesses throughout the darks of the background. The browns of his hair are also thin and pressed. Despite all of this, as mentioned before, the painting retains many good passages and presents a strong and handsome image. It is impossible to see anything under ultraviolet.
In a carved and giltwood frame with losses to gilding.
