Description

  • tempera and gold ground on panel, unframed

Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This charming panel is stable and unframed. The panel seems to be made from two sections of wood which are joined horizontally across the top of the panel. The gesso layer and the paint layer are both intact. There may be a couple of small restorations in the lower left in the deep red cloak of the figure; however, the gilding and the paint layer throughout seem to be particularly well preserved. Although there are a couple of minor losses on the extreme top edge, overall the condition is extremely good.
