Condition

Though the tonality of the catalogue illustration is representative, the painting is far richer and more detailed than the rather flat impression given by the photograph. The canvas has a recent effective relining and is offered in a later rich carved wood frame. To the naked eye the paint surface appears secure with apparently no losses or damages. However, some parts of the sky and the extreme left of the canvas do appear a little thin. When inspected under ultraviolet light some scattered retouchings flouresce. There has been some quite extensive repainting in the sky but the majority of the painting is well preserved.

Catalogue Note

A 73, p. 143, illustrato).
