The catalogue illustration is representative, though perhaps the painting is more luminous and contrasted in tone. The canvas has ben relined and is offered in a modern thin painted gold frame. Some discoloured retouchings are visible in the centre of the painting; these correspond with what was probably an old fold which ran both vertically and horizontally. Some retouchings can also be made out on Joseph's cloak, as visible in the catalogue. 2 small losses can be found on Joseph's book and in the the angel's red ribbon. Inspection under UV light conferms these and reveals several other scattered patches of restoration under the oxidised varnish.
