The painting is cooler and less red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The relined canvas is offered in a carved painted and gilt wood frame. The paint surface is secure and unsed a yellow varnish. The impasto and vibrant brushstrokes are beautifully preserved in many areas. To the naked eye the painting appears in good condition. UV light reveals scattered strenghtenings and some more extensive retouchings to the dark areas of the figures' cloaks, along the lower edge and in a more concentrated way in the lower right quarter.
