Condition

The catalogue illustration is very representative of the painting. The panel has a slight bow. No major damages can be seen o the naked eye, except for a little area of restoration along the upper margin and a very well restored crack running alongside the right margin from the tree to the lower margin. The inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the afore-mentioned restoration and reveals another area of restoration on the water between the Christ left foot and the rocks. It shows also slight "layers" on the Christ body which were added during past restoration, probably in order to soften some of the abraded areas, and confirms the good state of the other figures.

Catalogue Note

La tavola, notevole esempio di eleganza di gusto tardo-gotico, è stata attribuita alla tarda maturità dell'artista dal professor Everett Fahy, che ha inoltre suggerito che il dipinto faccia parte della stessa predella del Tradimento di Cristo e della Discesa al Limbo venduti da Sotheby's Londra nel 1985 (3 Aprile 1985, lotti 2 e 3) e della Resurrezione proveniente sempre dalla collezione Spiridon.
