Neapolitan School, 17th Century

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. Both canvases are unlined and have lost tension; the surfaces to both are unstable and the paint is raised. There are numerous small losses, some of which have been excessively restored out. The reds and the backgrounds to both paintings have been compromised. Much of the paint to both is well preserved, however, including the paint texture and impasto, and the colours saturate well. Removal of discoloured varnish to both would improve tonality. Offered in modern red painted and gilt wood frames in good condition."
