- oil on copper
Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The copper panel is recessed in a wooden tray and is in a good flat condition. The paint layer is stable but restored across the upper left and right corners, earlier damages. It is thinly painted on a pale coarse ground and here and there the paint has been abraded and consequently strengthened, e.g. the white cloth, blue waistcoat and fore ground lower left. Generally in a good preserved condition with no tonal benefit to be achieved with the removal of the varnish.
Offered in a dark wood frame in good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
