Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is in a good flat condition with no repairs or deformations. The paint layer is stable and secure. There are some restored losses to the sky, elsewhere through the composition and to the right hand edge. Some replaced glazes in the foreground and to the fields in the mid-ground can be detected. The tonality would improve if the varnish was removed. The painting, on the whole, is well preserved. Offered in a gilt wood frame in good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
