"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel has been thinned and maroflaged in order to consolidate two horizontal joins, top and centre, and a horizontal 10cm split on the right side; these are unstable with paint loss along them. The paint surface has been significantly abraded and scumbles and glazes have been compromised leading to extensive strengthening throughout. Some of this augmentation is, without doubt, excessive and imprecise, but little of the paint surface is unaffected. The varnish is discoloured. Offered in a plain moulded dark wood frame with a gold sight edge."
