Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined and the paint surface is raised but secure along regular, vertical ridges (perhaps the result of the painting having been rolled at some point). There is a repaired and restored central L-shaped damage to the background and restorations to the lower right corner. Under ultraviolet light small retouchings can be seen scattered across the surface reducing discoloured spots in the paint. The varnish is discoloured and degraded and removing it would significantly improve the tonality. Overall, the painting is in a good uncompromised condition. Offered in a gilt wood frame with some losses."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
