Condition

The actual painting is a lot darker and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is very lightly bowed, and lightly bevelled along the upper, left and right sides. Small paint losses are visible in the lower right corner, and along the upper and lower edges. Two tiny crudely retouched paint losses are visible in the upper left corner and to the lower centre left. Otherwise, the paint layer seems to be in good condition. Minor strengthening can be observed in the figures. The paint surface is covered with a dirty and discoloured layer of varnish. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light is completely impeded by the dirty varnish layer. This lot is offered unframed. (MW)
