Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 16 July 1980, lot 236.

Condition

The actual painting is a bit darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of one plank and is bevelled along all sides. The plank is flat. The paint surface is in good and stable condition, no damages or repairs are visible to the naked eye. There is minor frame abrasion along the edges. The paint surface is under a very fine craquelure pattern and the the varnish is dirty and yellowed. Inspection under UV-light is impeded by the varnish layer, but the painting appears to be very well preserved. Offered in a very decorative gilt wood frame, in fair condition, with a few chips and a minor damages. (JD)
