Condition
The actual painting is a lot softer and less red than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a recent relining. The paint layer is secure, although a little thin in the darker passages. Some scattered retouchings can be observed in the background upper centre, in the lower centre, and in the vase. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light, furthermore, reveals additional retouchings lower left and lower right, and minor strengthening in the foliage. The paint surface is under a discoloured layer of varnish.
Offered in an elaborately carved wood and plaster gilt frame, in fair condition. (MW)
