- A fire in a village at night with villagers trying to extinguish it
- signed lower left: Ev Poel.
- oil on panel
Provenance
Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 7 March 1980, lot 66.
Condition
The actual painting is slightly darker and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The small panel consists of 2 planks, joined horizontally, and is bevelled on all sides. No damages are apparent and the paint surface is in good condition. Minor strengthening can be observed in the figures in the foreground. The paint surface is under a glossy and dirty layer of varnish. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light is inconclusive due to the varnish.
Offered in a decorative carved gilt wood frame, in good condition. (MW)
