Description
- Joos van Craesbeeck
- A couple fighting in an interior
- signed with initials centre right: C B
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is softer in tone and shows less contrast than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is slightly bowed and bevelled on the lower edge. There is a small dent along the right edge and two small spots of paint loss along the left edge. The paint surface is slightly abraded in the darker tones, but otherwise, seems to be in good condition. A few tiny retouchings can be observed in the woman's skirt, coat and hand and in the face of the man. The paint surface is covered with a glossy and discoloured layer of varnish. Inspection under ultra violet light is largely impeded by the dirty varnish layer, but does confirm the retouchings as mentioned above. Offered in a plain fruit wood frame with moulded borders, a few chips. (MW)
