Description

  • Avanzino Nucci
  • the raising of lazarus
  • Pen and brown ink and wash heightened with white over black chalk on light blue paper

Condition

The drawing, which was once folded, has been reinforced on the verso by several strips of paper - these have created several creases on the recto. There are a few tiny pin point losses and some areas where the ink has bitten the paper. The overall impression is still fresh.

Catalogue Note

The strong influence of Federico Zuccaro and some stylistic similarities with the work of Cesare Nebbia (for example, the figures in the background), together with the technique, make the attribution to Nucci, suggested by Enrico Cortona, very plausible.
