Catalogue Note

See note to lot 54. In making this panoramic view, Van Goyen drew across the entire width of his open sketchbook. This is the only example in the entire 1650-51 sketchbook of such a double-page drawing. The town of Tiel lies a little to the East of Zaltbommel.
