Condition

Framed. Hinged to the left to an old backing sheet. There are some vertical creases to the left of the sheet, and some very pale, isolated fox marks, but otherwise the condition is fine and the medium is still strong and fresh.

Catalogue Note

Prior to the 1994 sale, Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck confirmed the attribution, and identified the village seen in the background of this landscape by comparison with a sheet inscribed 'Haren' in the Dresden sketchbook of circa 1648.1
