Catalogue Note

These two accomplished and animated drawings would appear to be by the same hand as another of the same dimensions in the Louvre.Frits Lugt catalogued the Louvre drawing as the work of an anonymous Netherlandish draughtsman of around 1575, influenced by Hans Bol, but the present works seem more reminiscent of certain rather earlier artists, notably Matthys Cock.
