Description

  • Jean-Baptiste Mallet
  • a young couple drinking chocolate, with a madame looking on
  • Gouache

Provenance

A version of this composition was sold in New York, Christie's, 9 January 1991, lot 79.  This second image differed, however, in one very important respect: there we see a cat seated with the young man, rather than a deshabillĂ©e young lady, and there is, correspondingly, one less cup of chocolate on the table.

Condition

Framed. There is a small nick to the upper part of the left edge, and a tiny hole at the upper right, repaired on the verso. Otherwise the condition is very good and the gouache still fresh.
