Condition
One panel is strongly bowed at the left and right edges; the other panel is only slightly bowed. Both are in good condition, one with a very small chip on the vest. Both under thick, glossy varnish. Under UV light: very small retouches at the corners on both.

The first is a copy of the same dimensions of a painting whose attribution to Hals was rejected by Seymour Slive, see S. Slive, Frans Hals, vol. 3, p. 146, no. D51, reproduced, no. 172. The second is a copy of a portrait by Hals, in the Mauritshuis, the Hague, inv. no. 618.
