Condition
Lined canvas. Surface is stable but with craquelure and tiny spots of paint loss. Very soiled and spotty varnish. Under UV light: tiny spots of inpainting on her face and around her head. A large area of inpainting on the left sleeve above the platter.

Catalogue Note
This striking painting was most likely a portrait of an unknown lady whom the artist has portrayed in the guise of a New Testament character. It is consistent with Benefial's portrait style (see for example, a Portrait of a Young Woman holding a Flower, sold Finarte, Milan, November 1, 1982, illustrated in G. Sestieri, Repertorio della Pittura Romana, vol. II, Turin, 1994, fig. 93).
