Catalogue Note

the de belder copy; an extremely rare work, ABPC recording only this copy at auction.

The work gives "the botanical results of a tragic journey of exploration up the White Nile made in 1861-1864 by three courageous Dutchwomen, Mme. Henriette Louise Marie Tinne, her daughter Alexandrie P.F. Tinne, and her sister Adrienne van Capellen. The two elder women... died on the journey" (Great Flower Books). The portrait, which appears on the second dedication, is of Henriette Tinne, to whose memory the book is dedicated. The plates of Nile flora are after drawings by Liepolt and Mettenius.
