Catalogue Note

Dalvimart is an enigmatic figure about whom little is certainly known. According to the preface, he travelled in Turkey in about 1798 and made drawings on the spot. He was certainly in Athens in 1797. Thomas Charles Wageman (1787-1863) was a proto-aesthete who oversaw the formation of the New Society of Painters in Water-Colours in 1831.
