Catalogue Note

Liszt's Two Episodes from Lenau's Faust, S.110; Raabe 427, was first performed at Weimar on 8 March 1861.  The work contains the famous First "Mephisto" Waltz, and was dedicated to Tausig. Cornelius was a major figure in the circle of Liszt and Wagner. From this visit to Weimar dates his close involvement with Wagner and with the preparations for Tristan und Isolde in particular. Madame Ollivier was Liszt's daughter Blandine (1835-1862).
