Catalogue Note
Autograph manuscripts by Dohnányi are uncommon. To judge from some sources in the British Library's important collection of Dohnányi materials (Add. MS 51 066, fols.1-4), it would appear that at one stage the composer contemplated a four movement version of the concerto - hence the heading '3. Satz' [i.e. 3rd. movement] for what became the second movement. The premiere of the concerto was given at Budapest on 11 January 1899.
