  • Two volumes signed and inscribed by Britten to Eric Crozier, the original producer of Peter Grimes
1) Peter Grimes [vocal score], Boosey & Hawkes, 1945, Presentation copy signed by Britten for Eric Crozier, 4to (c.30 x 23.5cms), Copy no.6, quarter morocco, lithographed upper cover,  a few minor tears to margins, some light foxing



2) Allardyce Nicoll. Stuart Masque and the Renaissance Stage, Harrap, 1937, with a presentation inscription to Eric Crozier, signed by Britten on the day of the premiere of "Peter Grimes", on the flyleaf, green cloth, blind stamped title



"Dear Eric, Thanking him for his skill, his tact, his infinite patience, and above all his great understanding of 'Peter Grimes' Ben Britten. June 7th 1945"

Catalogue Note

Eric Crozier was the original producer of Peter Grimes and so, in large measure, responsible for its triumphant first night at Sadler's Wells.  These books were inscribed to him before the momentous performances, which transformed Britten's career and the history of British opera.
