Catalogue Note
A noteworthy article by the Rudolstadt chamber singer W. Schüler on conducting - 'Vom Dirigiren und insbesondere von der Manier des Dirigirens' - had appeared in Schumann's Neue Zeitschrift für Musik the previous year (1836, vol. iv, p. 129). Signed simply 'S', the article had longed been assumed to be by Schumann himself. The 'S' however referred to Schüler's composing pseudonym 'Sylphin vom Walde'.
