Condition
The painting and canvas are in good condition.
The canvas is clear and quite taut.
Examination with ultraviolet light reveals some scattered spots of minor retouching, as is typical from a painting of this age. Retouching was found mostly in the background (foliage, branches, grounds). There are also a few spots of retouching on the upper left corner, as well as along the upper left edges (the latter probably due to abrasion from the frame). A spot of retouching is found on the middle left edge. Figures are in fine and original condition, except for a few specks of retouching on the weaver's forehead and waist, and a spot on the right-most figure's sarong. Restorations are visible only under UV light.
Some craquelures are found on the middle left edge due to the natural process of ageing and from frame abrasion - only visible when closely scrutinized and are almost not visible under the frame. The paint layers and impastos are intact and in stable condition.
In an original, hand-carved wooden frame of the artist.
(The painting is examined within its frame).
