Catalogue Note

The MacQuarie, initially named Melbourne, was built by R & H Green at Blackwall.  She was designed as a passenger ship but proved equally effective as a cargo carrying clipper.  The accompanying photograph shows her in the former capacity and gives a sense of the relatively tranquil atmosphere of the poop deck in fine weather.
