Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. PAINT SURFACE The paint surface is generally sound with scattered flecks of dirt in the sea and traces of a discoloured varnish in the sky. Also traces of craquelure typical of a work of this age. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV light reveals retouching to frame abrasions on the top and side borders. further retouching to an old repair, lower right, and a few spots of repainting to the central vessels. FRAME Held in a later plaster frame in fair condition.
