Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas is original and in sound condition.
PAINT SURFACE
The paint surface is thin in the sky, probably due to over cleaning. There is over painting visible to the naked eye. There is also a few lines of paint shrinkage to the sails of the central vessel.
ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT
UV light reveals extensive over painting and some further strengthening to the vessels and sea.
FRAME
Held in a later plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
