Description

The cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 27.05 carats, within a double border of 38 old-mine diamonds weighing approximately 10.50 carats, mounted in gold and platinum, brooch fitting detachable. 

Condition

Accompanied by AGTA report no. 98001511 stating that the sapphire is of Kashmir origin; no indications of heating. Also accompanied by Gubelin report no. 0808120 stating that the sapphire is of Kashmir origin; no indications of heating. The sapphire is a lively medium blue color and is very slightly included. Some wide bands of color zoning can be seen from the back side of the stone, but only with magnification. Otherwise the stone is evenly saturated in the face-up position. Minor abrasions and chipping to some of the facet junctions and girdle. The diamonds are approximately G-J color and VS-SI clarity. Mounting is in good condition. Brooch stem detaches.

Together with an appendix stating: "The natural sapphire of 27.05 ct. described in the above mentioned Gubelin Gem Lab Report possesses a saturated colour and a finely proportioned cut. In addition, this gemstone has been spared of thermal treatment. Such a combination of characteristics is rare in natural Kashmir sapphires of this size."
