Galvanoplastie tirée d'un daguerréotype, encadrée sous verre. Titre inscrit à l'encre sur une étiquette. Une étiquette imprimée 'Collection P. Lambert' et une autre 'Reproduction d'un daguerréotype par la galvanoplastie par H. Fizeau (1841)' au verso.

Slightly faded around all four edges. Traces of oxidation visible as clearly indicated in our catalogue illustration. Glass recently replaced.

Cette copie par électrolyse d'un daguerréotype est un témoin précieux de la naissance des procédés photomécaniques. Hippolyte Fizeau utilisait cette méthode à la fois pour multiplier les daguerréotypes uniques par définition, et pour les transformer en gravures imprimables en taille-douce.
Pierre Lambert sauva de la destruction, en 1936, une partie des archives photographiques de Fizeau.
